Son-Consciousness
Seeing God's [eggs]traordinary love
Who doesn’t love to be out in the sun on the beach? Believe me, if it were up to me, I’d be there right now. But, I’m continuing to realize that God shows me His brilliant love in so many ways. I don’t need to obsess over wanting to be at the beach (not all the time, anyway). I just need to look around. Here are just a few examples:
1 - The outdoors. I often talk about Vitamin D from the sun. My appreciation for sunshine and the outdoors grows even more this time of the year. Such a longing I have for days when the sun breaks out fully from behind the clouds!
2 - Eggs. Did you know there is vitamin D in egg yolks? They are especially glorious when the chickens are grass-fed and pasture-raised. And they even LOOK like the sun!
3 - Spending time with Jesus. You might be thinking, “How does that connect with outdoors and eggs?” Well, I think it’s no accident that “Son” and “sun” sound the same. It’s good to spend time in the sun, even better to spend time with the Son. How? Prayer, thanksgiving, and spending time learning who He is by reading His Word (the Bible).
The play on words in the title comes from spending the last 30 years or so in many church circles. Some Christians use the phrase “sin-conscious” to describe churches or movements that focus on sin instead of grace. We can easily become “sin-conscious” as a Christian, when we look at why we think we aren’t worthy of the gifts God has given us. When we spend so much time looking at ourselves (good or bad), we become more aware of ourselves than God’s grace and forgiveness. We then get bummed out and start to meditate on our own unworthiness. Isn’t that just like the devil?
BUT, as we become more “Son-conscious” as I heard a minister teach, we start to notice what Jesus did and then we begin to see the love God has for us. He already knows our sins and shortcomings. Instead of focusing on any of my actions (good or bad), it’s more of a relief to focus on His love for us!
I really believe that Philippians 1:9 is showing us this important truth: Our ability to love God and others grows in proportion to our understanding of how much God loves us. In other words, we become more “SON-conscious”. You’ll have to look up that chapter (above) and read for yourselves, to get the full effect.
As we see God’s love for us, our capacity to love Him back and to love others increases!
This Valentine’s Day, remember that God wants us to know how much He loves us! So, go ahead, eat those eggs! Let that yolk be a reminder of the sun, His love and becoming more SON-conscious!
No enewsletter is complete until it is connected to a blog (this one is about egg preservation) if you are interested!
All of HIS love,
Chris
